Bengaluru, often called Bangalore, was founded in 1537 by Kempe Gowda, a local chieftain who laid the foundation of the city as a fortified settlement. Over time, it came under the rule of the Mysore Kingdom, including notable rulers like Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan, whose contributions are still reflected in nearby historical sites. During British colonial rule, Bengaluru developed into a major military and administrative center, leading to the establishment of cantonment areas with European-style architecture. This dual influence—native and colonial—shaped the city’s early character. In the post-independence era, Bengaluru evolved into India’s technology hub, often referred to as the “Silicon Valley of India.” Despite rapid urbanization, the city has managed to retain elements of its heritage through landmarks like Bangalore Palace, Tipu Sultan’s Summer Palace, and historic temples. Its history reflects a transition from a regional stronghold to a global technology center.
